Dipali Deshpande is a contemporary Indian artist based in Abu Dhabi, UAE, known for her textile-inspired oil paintings and immersive installation art. Her work celebrates India’s nine-yard wonder — the sari — and the timeless beauty of drapery, handlooms, and embroidery.
Raised in western Maharashtra, Dipali grew up in her family’s textile showroom, developing a fascination for fabric folds, textures, and the luxury of silk. Although academically trained as an engineer, her passion for art led her to professional training in traditional drawing and old master oil painting techniques, including mentorship under a Russian artist in Singapore.
Her debut solo exhibition, “Vastram” (India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, 2020), was followed by more than forty national and international group shows. She has been selected for the London Art Biennale, Swiss Art Expo, and Global Create Magazine’s Spring Exhibition, with works featured in international art magazines and acquired by collectors in the UK, USA, UAE, Netherlands, and India.
Dipali’s paintings combine bright hues with subtle palettes, often incorporating mixed media to replicate the tactile essence of textiles — from the smooth lustre of silk to the rugged texture of jute. Her installations transform her painted subjects into physical spaces, blending antique furniture with ethnic draperies to create living cultural narratives.
Artist Statement:
"I paint to honour the silent poetry of fabric — the way a fold holds memory, the way silk whispers of celebration, and the way a sari carries the identity of a woman. My art is a conversation between heritage and modernity, weaving together colour, texture, and story for collectors and audiences worldwide."
